First time I heard Steve sing I felt: I think I was 10 or 11 and I saved $5 bucks and bought my first radio, a little blue am radio only, it barely got any stations but I remember sitting on my bedroom floor and putting the radio on for the first time and searching for stations for music, and all of a sudden I heard Who's Crying Now, I was immobile, I froze, I fell in love with this beautiful voice. From thereon every moment I got I was searching for this voice I never heard before. I soon learned the voice belong to Journey. I saved every penny I had and months later (we were poor) I took the bus to ride a round trip of 20 miles to the nearest record store to buy Escape, still there were no clear pictures of this band named "Journey", I still didn't know what they looked like. One evening I was washing dishes and my dad was watching TV and called out to me that Journey was going to perform on TV, with my t-shirt all wet from washing dishes I rushed to the living room with soap suds still on my hands only for my father to say, "Get out of here go watch it on the black and white TV", (my father is a mean old teddy bear) I rushed to the next room turned the TV on, tried to get Channel 9 but the TV was so old and the reception was bad the only way to see it clearly was to hold a wire hanger to get reception. Journey came on it was an old show, but they performed Wheel In The Sky, I never heard that song before and was mesmerized. My father looked on and he realized just how much I loved Journey and before Journey performed the next song my father allowed me to sit in the living room and watch them on the color TV. All I remember was holding my hands over my mouth in astonishment over hearing Journey sing Patiently, Steve Perry was wearing white boots, white bell bottoms, white shirt, long, straight hair, I heard Patiently and my eyes teared up, it was so beautiful, Steve was so beautiful, his voice was like an angel, and I knew from that moment on that I must have everything he ever sang. My father looked on staring at me and he knew he now had to compete with another man in my life. From that day forward my love for Steve Perry's voice grew into unconditional love, anything and everything he sang I loved.
Favorite CD: Trial by Fire because it was released 2 weeks before I was married, it felt like Steve gave me a wedding gift.
Have you seen Steve in concert? When I graduated high school my uncle took me to see Journey at Long Beach Arena, then I was able to see Steve perform in Los Angeles at the Pantages 2 days in a row out of the 3 days he was performing, if I could afford it I would have went all 3 days.
If you could put one song in a time capsule for future generations what would it be and why? Somewhere There's Hope because not only does it show Steve's beautiful voice but it's also an uplifiting song.
