March 12 2008: Toto Guitarist Steve Lukather thanks Steve Perry
In the liner notes for Steve Lukather’s latest solo CD, there is a thank you to Steve Perry. Lukather commented on this on the Toto Network website recently:
“Yeah that’s "the" Steve Perry. He is an old friend and neighbor and he came down to hang on a few sessions. I TRIED to get him to sing something but he declined. He is a good guy and a great singer. We all want to hear something from him. You have to ask him. He liked my stuff and that is cool and we have a meal once in a great while. That’s as deep as it is. He was just a good vibe that’s why I thanked him.”
March 25: Last month we asked you to vote for Steve in a few online polls.
Number 1 Male Rock Singer has
now concluded
and Steve came a creditable 2nd to Freddie Mercury. Less than one percent separated them.

that I learn.
Where is your current computer located? In our office/den.
Been a fan how long? This is the fun part! I have been a fan since 2007, only one year but one very big year!!
I discovered Steve and Journey when our station premiered "The Tube" which is an MTV type all music video format. We
aired several Journey videos and when I saw Steve and his amazing energy and emotion, I was hooked! Unfortunately the
Tube did not last long but long enough for me to get reacquainted with Journey and become a fan. I remember their music
on the radio in the 80s and I always enjoyed it but I was too busy to really investigate and buy albums at that time.
Now I wish I had for I might have seen a concert or two !!
First time I heard Steve sing I felt: I am 50 but I felt like a teenager again. After I discovered Journey I ran out
and bought all the CD's and DVD's I could find with the exception of the new Journey which I don't care for without Steve!!
I think it is awful that the band could not wait for him to get through his health problem, I think it is their loss, big time.
I would certainly love to see Steve return to recording once again. I think most of his fans agree.
Favorite CD: Trial By Fire
Have you seen Steve in concert? No, but I wish I could have. The videos are the closest I have and they are awesome!
I am wearing them out!
If you could put one song in a time capsule for future generations what
would it be and why?
That is a difficult question because there are so many songs that are wonderful and could go in a time capsule. If I had to
choose one it would be
Don't Stop Believin', mostly because of the history behind it, I think it completely sums up what
Journey was all about in the beginning, because they truly believed in what they were doing and their music and they worked so
hard. Also, being from Chicago, who can forget the song becoming the White Sox theme song for winning the pennant. Then there
was
Monster which became an Academy Award winner. Truly awesome history for one song.
Personal Comments: I think the original Journey is timeless, and Steve Perry is the one responsible. There is no doubt
in my mind because all the 'wanna bes' do not have the energy or the voice that the man had and never will no matter how hard they
try to find a replacement. There is only one voice, Steve Perry. I wish with all my heart that he finds peace and happiness in
this world and will one day get back in the game of recording and perhaps even do a little touring just for old times' sake. I hope
he realizes how many new fans he has attracted since those early days and the fans just keep rolling in, all ages and that is a true
test of time!
Thank you, Beata!

Steveisms
"I didn't make music for critics, I made music for people. It never bothered me because I never read any of it. I read,
I think, three reviews in my whole career. I just figured it's one person's opinion. At the end of the show, when you get
your encore, and they won't stop until you're back on stage, that's my review. I don't need no other review than that. I
don't care what one person thinks. I've just had 25,000 people tell me what they think."
