NEWS and INFORMATION

May 30 2008: The GQ journalist, Alex Pappademas, has reproduced most of his lengthy interview with Steve in his blog. Go here to read it.
Thanks, Moni

May 14 2008: The current issue of GQ Magazine has a long feature on Journey, for which Steve Perry was also interviewed. Steve's comments are on page 11:

I get a slightly different take from Steve Perry, who calls from his home near San Diego. Perry, who’s finally started working on his first album of new material since leaving Journey, doesn’t want to talk about the vocalists who’ve followed in his footsteps, Pineda included. . . ”

"You've got to remember, they didn't want to make it with a lead singer," he says. "They wanted to make it without one . . ."

Thanks, Lyric

May 2008: Four more articles have been added to the Press Room during the past month. They are:

Journey Gets A Warm Welcome At Radio, Billboard, 1996
Journey Greatest Hits - Featured Selection, BMG Music Service, 1988
The Journey Solo, People Magazine, 1994
The Journey Begins Again, The Gavin Report, 1996

May 18 2008: Meatloaf was interviewed on the A&E show, Private Sessions, where he complimented Steve
Perry, saying: "I am not a singer...Steve Perry is a singer, Aretha Franklin is a singer...". Thanks, 81jrnyfn

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

This month we are spotlighting: Gina!

Name: Gina Clark
steveperryfans.com message board name (if different): gclark59
Hometown: Owasso, OK.

Occupation: Medical Practice Business Office, but am going to school to become a certified medical coder for medical insurance billing.

Family: Single parent with with 1 teenage daughter, Libby.

Hobbies: Music, art (I love blown glass - Dale Chihuly is my favorite), architecture (modern) and plants.

When did you buy your first computer? Just this past Christmas.

Where is your current computer located? My bedroom, wireless and a laptop

Been a fan how long? Since 1978 - My mother actually introduced me to Journey. My mother was a singer and pianist for church. She had true natural talent. She loved his voice. And if she were alive today and Steve needed Faithfully brought down 2 steps, not a problem....I got lost in other music around 1984, though I bought a Greatest Hits CD at some point, but am discovering all that I missed now. Man, did I ever miss a lot ... But am thankful he recorded all that he did...

First time I heard Steve sing I felt: I could listen to him sing forever...several years later and I'm still listening to him sing. Even when my cell phone rings...

Favorite CD: Do I have to chose one? Okay Escape then ... no, Street Talk, no, Infinity, no....oh well you get the picture...

Have you seen Steve in concert? No.. I don't know why I missed concerts...But I could kick myself now.

If you could put one song in a time capsule for future generations what would it be and why? For me that one is easy. Mother, Father (live only) - I prefer Journey and Steve live rather than studio. The live versions really showcase his true amazing talent.. Future generations need to hear raw talent ... No equipment to aid with voice ... I would also put Open Arms (live also) Truly a wonderful version of the song from the Live in Houston DVD.

Personal Comments: The man is truly gifted. Write, play, and sing...

Thank you, Gina!

"Journey can be Steve Perry and Steve Perry can be Journey. The band I have for the Steve Perry project is good for my solo feelings. Journey couldn't copy a Journey thing although with me singing it may be that we'd get away with it. I think it's all apples and oranges. They're different, but they're still good."

~ Song Hits Magazine, October 1984
