JOURNEY ROCKS...
Loud & Hard & In Your Town - Be There!
They've spent nearly a decade doing their musical thing - and now Journey's clearly on top of the rock pile. One of the few bands who can claim SRO status on the concert trail, Journey's bringing their live show to town - every town (just about!) on the map. If you've seen 'em, you've witnessed one unforgettable rock event - if you haven't, RockLine! lets you in on just a bit of what's been going down!
THERE'S STEVE PERRY!
1. He's comin' to you with "Open Arms" - who could turn him away? Steve's the band's oh-so distinctive lead voice - haunting on ballads like "Faithfully" and sizzling on rockers like "Chain Reaction." Steve-the-P does it all!
2. "Don't Stop Believin'" Steve exhorts and seeing is believing at this Journey concert - it's all up on a giant video screen that reflects everything
that's happening on stage (and off, as the cameras let you watch the band emerging from the dressing rooms and invading the stage)!
3. The show gets you up and dancing beginning with the hard-hitting "Chain Reaction," "Wheel In The Sky" and "Line Of Fire" - Steve and Neal really get into it!
AND NEAL SCHON!
4. Journey's only remaining founder is 29 years young - a natural guitarist ("I was a child prodigy," Neal reveals, "never bothered with lessons. Didn't need to.") Neal was most influenced by the great "Slowhand" himself, Eric Clapton.
5. Neal can be as romantic as any Journeyman - and he's one of the few unattached fellas (romantically, that is) the band has left!
Journey Rocks!
AND JONATHAN CAIN!
6. Jonny-come-lately (he joined up in 1980) was once tagged "Journey's Secret Weapon" because of his virtuosity as a songwriter, keyboard man and rhythm guitarist. And Jon has added a lot of excitement to Journey - nearly as much as Journey's added to his life!
7. Ah - and he has a sense of humor, too! On a rare day off between concerts, Jon and the band went to see the movie, Spacehunter 3-D, and brought back a souvenir for all the audience to see (and for him to see - them in vivid depth!)
PLUS ROSS VALORY!
8. Journey's personal "Mr. Bassman" is Ross Valory, the 34-year-old San Franciscan who adds that extra sparkle to every Journey concert. Ross is especially excited about Journey's addition of new light pattern changes and stage bombs that highlight this trip.
AND STEVE SMITH!
9. He can't hide behind that elaborate drum set - not from RockLine!'s cameras, anyway. And why would he want to - Journey's drummer is a rock-solid musician and family man. He's devoted to his young son Ian Matthew Smith and even took the tyke along when the band rented an entire theater (right in the middle of the tour!) to screen Return Of The Jedi for themselves and their entire road crew. Movies is a direction, in fact, the band is moving into, onstage and backstage was filmed for a TV documentary detailing just what it takes to get a group like Journey out on the road: you'll see it soon!
NAME ALL OF JOURNEY'S ALBUMS - AND WIN THEM ALL!
Sure you know Journey's been around for years and naturally, you know that Frontiers is their tenth album - can you name the other nine? If you can, and you're judged the winner, RockLine! will put a rockin' package together of all ten albums and send 'em off to you for free! Just fill in the answer coupon here and mail it off to RockLine! All correct entries will be placed in a drum, and RockLine!'s editors will randomly choose the winner. Good luck - a Journey catalog could be on its way to your house!
The lucky winner will be announced in the January/February issue of RockLine!, on sale November 29.
