Here's how Steve Perry, Jonathan Cain, Steve Smith, Ross Valory and Neal Schon looked outside Meadowlands after a gig.
Journey has just about put the finishing touches on their latest disk . . . so you know what
that means! Hit-the-road time! And this next Journey tour is rumored to be the longest, the
biggest, the greatest show of their career!
Because they are so very popular . . . especially Mr. Perry . . . it
is not quite as easy to meet Journey on the road as some groups. But occasionally, fans do
slip through the security guards and roadies and wind up face-to-face with their heroes! As
one fan from Toledo told us, "They care about their fans . . . but you have to realise they
are human beings. They get along well, and seem to confide in each other. Neal Schon is very
open . . . he is friendly and talks to everybody."
If you do run into the Fab Five sometime, here are a few hints:
If you're a fan, they'll sense it and will answer your questions. Neal is always especially nice.
1. If Steve Perry is with what appears to be a girl-friend, back off a bit. We've heard that
Steve doesn't like to be unduly pestered when he's got his lady in tow.
2. Ask a lot of questions . . . nothing too personal, mind you, but enough to show you are
familiar with the group and are curious about them.
3. BE YOURSELF. Don't come on overly sophisticated if you're not . . .guys in groups
generally can spot phonies a mile away. Just be friendly, and chances are they'll like you
for your own sweet self!
4. Tell the group a bit about yourself. It can get a little boring for them if all they talk
about is Journey. But don't overstay your welcome . . . know when to say goodbye.
5. BE CAREFUL. If someone tells you they'll take you backstage to meet the group, or the hotel,
or whatever, don't jump at the chance. No group is worth risking your health for . . . remember,
even if you don't get to meet Journey this time around, you can always listen to their records,
join their fan club, watch them on MTV: Music Television or just daydream away about them . . .
often dreams are better than reality!
