You love S.P. as a Journey-man and now it's time to love him in his own right as well. Are you ready?
Steve Perry, of Journey fame, has taken off on his own with his first solo LP, entitled Street
Talk, and you'd better believe that it is super-sensational. But the best news of all is that he has no plans for
leaving the band, which means that we're going to luck into having two Steve Perrys - one the lead singer of Journey, and
one a very talented musician in his own right. And you can't complain about that!
Steve first started to work the music business at the age of 18, when he sang radio and TV commercials.
But his first real job in the industry was as 2nd recording engineer for Crystal Studios. He really aspired to be on the
performing end of things, however, and after moving to Sacramento, he got his wish. His first bandwork was with a group called
Pieces and after that he played with a group called Ice. Then he hooked up with a group called Alien Project, which was
the most serious band up till then.
Things looked like they were really going to hit the big time for
Alien Project when they recorded a demo that landed them a contract with CBS Records. But tragedy struck when the band's bass
player was killed in a car accident and the CBS deal fell through.
As luck would have it, at just about this same time, Journey was looking for a lead singer. The group's
manager, Herbie Herbert, came upon the Alien Project demo tape, was instantly impressed with Steve's super voice, and asked him
to join the group as lead singer. Needless to say he accepted - and the rest, as they say, is history.
Steve presently lives in the San Francisco Bay area, where the band is based. He is extremely active in
the west coast music community as well as being the lead singer and one of the main songwriters for Journey. And he really enjoys
working with other talented musicians, such as Kenny Loggins, Sammy Hagar and Johnny Van Zant. But having a solo career as well
as being with Journey had been one of Steve's dreams for a long time, and now with the release of Street Talk, it has finally come true!
When he's not making music, Steve enjoys carpentry, cooking, watching TV with his friends and spending
time with his girlfriend, Sherrie. Yes, the single off his LP, "Oh Sherrie," was written for her! But don't despair - at least
he's still single!
As for the future, with his solo career launched and his LP booming up the charts, Steve Perry's only
unfulfilled dream is to perform with a symphony orchestra. And we'll take bets that one day this talented guy will do just that!
