The Escape tour featured more dates in Canada than any other of Journey's treks.
The Greg Kihn Band and Loverboy opened the shows on some of the US dates, with Billy Squier performing opening honors in Canada.
Journey opened for the Rolling Stones at shows in Buffalo, NY and at the JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, PA.
By the time Journey played their first US date on The Escape Tour (Saratoga, NY, August 27 1981) they had already taken the tour to Japan (commencing July 27) and performed five dates in Canada. The tour coincided with Journey's first #1 album in the USA, and was captured on film for an MTV concert special on November 6th 1981. This telecast has now been released as the Houston Summit DVD and shows the band at the height of their powers.
